CNA Certification in South Carolina

How to Become a CNA in South Carolina

If you want to be a CNA in South Carolina, you are required to take a South Carolina Department of Health approved CNA training program. After that, you will then take the National Nurse Aide Assessment Program Examination.

After completing your classes and exam, you will be certified in South Carolina. You can then begin working as a CNA or you can take additional classes to become a LPN or RN.

Enrollment and Completing CNA Classes

Step 1

Find an approved program in your state:

The Department of Health mandates that anyone who enrolls in a CNA training program must pass a criminal background check and undergo a full physical. You should also be current on your shot records and be able to show proof of this.

The course itself should include a bare minimum of 80 classroom study hours in a licensed medical establishment.

Step 2

Complete your CNA training program.

In training, you will learn about all aspects of working as a CNA, from daily routines to emergency situations. This will include lessons on cleanliness, resident care, hospice care, medical terminology, and CPR skills. You will also gain hands-on experience during training in a clinical setting.

CNA Testing Procedures and CNA Certification

Step 1

Prepare for your CNA certification exam by reviewing what you’ve learned in CNA training. We encourage you to take our practice tests as well to learn your strong and weak areas before the test.

Step 2

Take and pass the CNA exam in which will be administered by Pearson Vue.

The exam will cover two major areas of your CNA class’s topics. The first is your knowledge of nursing assistant skills and the second is your demonstration of those skills in an active environment. The test will take about two and a half hours to finish. You will be told your test scores shortly after you finish the test. If you pass the test, your CNA certification with the South Carolina registry will be official.

Step 3

Once you’ve passed your CNA certification exam, you should create your resume first and then start looking for work as a CNA. Your resume should include information about your education, CNA training, skills, certification, and experience.

The South Carolina Department of Employment lists the yearly CNA salary at $21,090. There is also a predicted 19% CNA growth rate over the next decade, so securing solid employment should prove relatively easy.
