CNA Certification in New Jersey

How to Become a CNA in New Jersey

After gaining your nurse aide certification in New Jersey, many opportunities will become available to you. It is exciting to know that with ongoing education, your CNA career can lead you to bigger and better positions such as an RN or LPN.

Enrollment and Completing CNA Classes

Step 1

Find an approved program in your state:

CNA classes in New Jersey have to include at least 90 training hours to qualify students to take the certification exam. 50 of these hours will be spent in a classroom setting while the other 40 hours will be spent receiving hands-on instruction in a medical setting.

Step 2

Complete a CNA training program.

In the classroom portion of your training, you will learn basic nurse aide skills such as medical terminology, understanding patient rights, and learning how to identify abuse in clients. You will also most likely learn how to respond to emergency situations as well.

The hands-on portion of your training will be in a medical setting like a retirement community or hospice. You will learn how to change bedding, feed and bath incapacitated patients, and handle emergency situations of all types. Handling different medical scenarios is a part of every nurse aide’s job, so learn to be adaptable to changing work scenarios.
