How to Become a CNA in Nevada

Individuals who are looking to become CNAs in Nevada must meet specific eligibility requirements. First of all, they must complete CNA training that is approved by the Nevada State Board of Nursing.

Once you complete a CNA course, you must complete the National Nurse Aide Assessment Program exam (NNAAP). Afterwards, you must contact the Nevada State Board of Nursing and fill out the Application for Certified Nursing Assistant certification to be placed on the Nevada State Nurse Aide Registry.

Step 1

Find an approved program in your state

An approved CNA training program includes 75 hours of class instruction. Before enrolling in a CNA training program in Nevada, you must pass a criminal background check and submit to a full health screening.

Step 2

Complete a CNA training program

Some of your training will be in a medical setting where you will get hands-on experience. Your courses are designed to give you the experience you need to successfully pass the licensing exam as well as to properly perform your everyday CNA routine. Part of the required coursework may cover CPR certification. If this is not available, you can earn this certification from your local Red Cross Association.

Step 1

Locate a CNA certification exam testing center

The licensing exam can often be taken at the facility where you took your classes. When this is not the case, you must pre-register at another facility.

Prepare for the CNA certification exam

You can do this by taking our CNA practice tests which will let you know any areas you need to polish up on.

Step 3

Take the Nevada CNA certification exam

The first part of the exam is designed to test your hands-on nurse aide skills. You will have about 35 minutes to perform the randomly-chosen tasks on a volunteer before the testing administrator. Candidates are often required to take this section first before moving on to the written exam.

The written section has a 2-hour limit and contains 55 multiple-choice questions. These questions will cover a variety of skills you learned in your CNA training program. Questions might also contain a few reading comprehension questions to ensure your proficiency in spoken and written English.

If you pass both test sections, you are considered certified. However, you might not appear on the Nevada Nurse Aide Registry for up to four months.

Step 4

Create your resume after you pass the certification exam. Write a solid resume that highlights your education, skills, certification, and experience to land a great CNA job.

According to the Nevada Department of Employment, there is a reported 29% CNA career growth rate for the next 6 years. The current Nevada listed median CNA salary is $28,585. Your earnings can rise as you get time and experience in the field.

You can also further your education by taking RN or LPN courses. Completing RN or LPN courses will qualify you for more lucrative job opportunities.
