How to Become a CNA in Mississippi
Becoming a certified nurse assistant in Mississippi is exciting and challenging and offers competitive salaries and growth. Mississippi is feeling the nationwide shortage of nurses due to the elderly population increase.
To become a CNA in Mississippi, you must first complete CNA training approved by the state’s Department of Health. You are also required to pass a certification exam. You must meet these requirements before you are recognized as a CNA on the Mississippi Nurse Aide Registry.

Enrollment and Completing CNA Classes
Step 1
Find an approved program in your state, and make sure you meet all eligibility criteria.
You must meet certain prerequisites before you are admitted to a training program.
You must be at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma or GED. Upon admittance, you will also need to pass a criminal background check and submit to a full health screening which includes a two-part TB screening.
Step 2
Choose a CNA training program
Your CNA training class should have at least 75 hours of learning in a classroom and at least 16 hours of training in a medical center.
Step 3
Complete your CNA training
Some of your training will be in a classroom where you will learn things like medical terminology and how to tend to the special needs of your patients. A portion of your training will also be hands-on like interacting with patients and learning skills such as using basic medical equipment and changing beds.
CNA Testing Procedures and CNA Certification
Step 1
Apply to take the CNA certification exam
If your training institution is not approved as a testing site, you can take the exam at Pearson Vue for an $89 registration fee.
Step 2
Prepare for the Mississippi CNA certification exam
Study and review what you have learned in your training program to prepare for your exam. We also encourage you to take our CNA practice tests prior to the examination.
Step 3
Take and pass the Mississippi CNA certification exam
This is a two-part exam. The first part is a written assessment while the second part involves completing basic CNA tasks.
The written section consists of sixty multiple-choice questions and ten reading comprehension questions. You must pass both sections to pass the exam and to get your name added to the Mississippi Nurse Aide Registry.

Create a resume and find a jobs.
