CNA Certification in Florida

How to Become a CNA in Florida

The Florida Department of Health regulates CNA training in Florida. If you want to be certified in Florida as a certified nurse aide, you must attend mandated training courses. After you complete training courses, you must pass the state certification test before being certified on the Florida Nurse Aide Registry. If you are at least 18 years old and have a high school diploma, you have the option of skipping the training portion and instead challenging the state exam. The CNA career path can be very exciting because of all the knowledge and experience you gain through training and relationships with your coworkers and patients.

Enrollment and Completing CNA Classes

Step 1

Your first step is to find a program in your state that offers an accredited program.

Your training will include practical and theory training for your test. During practical training, you will learn skills like how to do certain things like moving a patient, changing bedding and clothing, administering fluids, performing CPR, taking and recording medically related measurements, and the proper use of medical equipment and terminology. Classroom training will teach you other basic skills that Florida nurse aides need to be successful.

Step 2

The training school courses are mandated by federal regulations and must include a 120 hour training class in areas relevant to the nursing assistant position. You must also turn in a current immunization and police record before you can attend the CNA course. You should be ready to spend a good amount of time in a clinical on-the-job training facility as required by the state. At the end of your courses, you should be able to pass the state nurse assessment exam. You should also be able to perform nursing assistant duties on a professional level as required by the state.

Step 3

CNA Testing Procedures and CNA Certification

Step 1

Once you have completed your training program, you can proceed to taking your cna board exam.

You should study as much as you can for the exam. We have a great practice test library to help you take the Delaware CNA Test.

Step 2

Florida has contracted their state certification exam to Pro Metric so, unless your CNA training program is an authorized testing site, you will likely take your exam at Pro Metric. Dress comfortably for the exam as the exam takes a few hours to complete. When you arrive for your exam, make sure you have your CNA certification training graduation certificate, a valid government ID, and a fingerprint card. You will then begin the two-part exam for your license.

You will have 1.5 hours to take your written test which will be 60 multiple choice questions on a computer. An instructor will supervise the clinical test which will give you 35 minutes. In those 35 minutes, you must demonstrate your understanding of five nursing aide skills for a Nurse Aide Evaluator. If you pass your exam, your application will need to be approved by the Board of Nursing in Florida. It might take a few weeks to be officially added to the official state registry.

Testing will require an additional FBI fingerprint check separate from the one you took for training. Testing will also require eligibility approval through the Florida Department of Health. Your screening should be cleared through the Florida State Board of Nursing. Along with your application, you will need to provide the following fees:

* $93 for FBI check
* $43.25 to register
* $25 for theory and clinical test

Step 3

Once you are listed on the Florida Nurse Aide Registry you will be employable in Florida as a CNA and can begin applying for jobs in your area. We have an online database of jobs in Florida. You will need to create a user profile and resume in order to properly showcase your credentials. Create your resume and profile here.

Step 4

We encourage you to not end your education after getting your cna certification but to see it as more of a launchpad to other opportunities in healthcare. For example, you might want to later consider a Registered Nursing License or your LPN Degree.
