How to Become a CNA in Wyoming

Wyoming and other states across the nation are experiencing the same CNA shortage.  Many nurse aides who receive their CNA certification in Wyoming continue their education and become registered nurses or licensed practical nurses. You must be certified to work in any care facility in Wyoming. To become a CNA, you must complete CNA training in Wyoming that is approved by the Wyoming Department of Health. Aspiring CNAs must also pass the state nurse competency evaluation exam. After you pass the exam, you must apply and be listed on the Wyoming State Nurse Aide Registry.

Enrollment and Completing CNA Classes

Step 1:

Approved training programs must consist of at least 75 instruction hours. These hours are split into classroom learning and hands-on training in an approved care facility.

Students wishing to enroll in CNA training in Wyoming must undergo a full physical exam and pass a criminal background check. This will total out to about 16 hours.

Step 2:

Complete your CNA training.

During your training program, you will learn basic nursing skills like how to care for residents on a daily basis. Also, you must have your CPR certification to be a CNA in Wyoming.

You will do 16 hours of hands-on training. During this portion of the training, you will be expected to show efficiency in interacting with your supervisors, caring for the patients, providing meals and fluids, changing bedding, maintaining an illness-free environment, and encouraging resident independence.

CNA Testing Procedures and CNA Certification

Step 1:

Register to take the CNA certification exam through Pearson Vue. There will be a $98 test fee in addition to a $60 application fee.

Step 2:

Prepare for the CNA certification exam by going over your training and by taking our CNA practice exams.

Step 3:

Pass the CNA certification exam in Wyoming.

This exam consists of a written multiple-choice portion as well as a skills assessment portion. During the skills assessment portion, you will need to correctly complete five basic nurse aide skills.

If you are successful on both tests, your certification will be mailed to you. After that, you can then apply to be listed on the Wyoming Nurse Aide Registry.

Step 4:

Create your resume and start looking for CNA jobs.

The Department of Employment in Wyoming states that there is going to be a 22.1% growth rate for CNA jobs until 2016. As a certified nursing aide in Wyoming, you should expect to earn an annual CNA salary of around $26,176 a year.
